Nashid Mateen, program coach

My name is Nashid Mateen, and I have spent several years figuring out who I am on the other side of incarceration. The process hasn't been clean or linear, but it has led me to CROP. I relocated from Phoenix to Oakland because I believe in what CROP is doing and I want to be involved.

Navigating reentry myself, I know the weight of the first year home. The silence, the uncertainty, the pressure of proving something to a world that has already decided who you are. I want to be in those conversations for the people going through it right now, and to show up every day committed to helping fellows see what they are already capable of.

I am drawn to technology, storytelling, and understanding systems. Both the ones that hold people back and the ones that can move them forward. I am excited and humbled to be a Program Coach and to be a part of this process.
